Tonight’s Schedule
A welcome speech will commence at 6:45pm, after which guests with dinner tickets will begin to dine. Award-only ticket holders will arrive at 7:30pm, and the ceremony will commence at 8:30pm. To conclude the evening, the after-party will begin shortly before 10:00pm, ending around 11:30pm.

What is on the menu for dinner tonight?
Those holding dinner tickets will receive welcome drinks on arrival, along with a three course meal.
Starters: either prawn and crushed avocado with turmeric and chilli dressing, or sun-dried tomato and mozzarella quiche served with tossed spinach and pine nut salad.
Main Course: a choice of roast marinated chicken in Mediterranean flavours, or roast tandoori cauliflower bake with cheese and panko crumb.
Dessert: either lemon and stem ginger cheesecake, or chocolate profiteroles with fresh strawberries.

Where are the KCLSU Awards 2026 being held?
De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, located not far from Bush House, has played host to many high-profile events, including the auditions for Britain’s Got Talent, Vivienne Westwood fashion shows, and the Elle Style Awards. Tonight it hosts the KCLSU Awards 2026!

Dr. Ronx’s welcome speech begins
The host for tonight’s awards is KCL Medicine Alumnus Dr. Ronx Ikharia. Their multi-faceted portfolio includes being an Emergency Medicine Doctor, an activist, and a TV presenter. In 2020, Dr Ronx was awarded the Alumni Impact Award at the King’s Distinguished Alumni Awards for their work, which has involved presenting TV programmes about health inequality, such as Channel 4’s highly acclaimed 2020 documentary, Is Covid Racist?

In their welcome speech, Dr Ronx highlights how hosting the awards gala is a ‘full circle moment,’ having studied medicine at King’s. They shared words of encouragement and called the attendees ‘trailblazers who have shaped community’. A sign language interpreter was also present signing the speech in British Sign Language for anyone with hearing disabilities.

Dinner has begun
The room is buzzing with nominees and guests who are all dressed to the nines. They are currently being served dinner. Toasts being made, pictures being taken, chatter all around – in this air-conditioned hall, the attendees seem to be getting respite from the hottest day in May on record.

- There are 1,214 total nominations, 155 more than last year, which is a 14% increase.
- The most competitive category is President of the Year, with 168 nominations.
- The least competitive is Change Makers of the Year, with 17 nominations.
- There are 36 new groups nominated across all awards.

CHANGE MAKER OF THE YEAR: Guarantor Guarantee
The first award given out tonight is Change Maker of the Year, which goes to Guarantor Guarantee. The group calls for King’s College London to act as a guarantor for its students and establish an internal scheme to support this cause.

STUDENT MEDIA PROJECT OF THE YEAR: Varsity 2026 Broadcast series
The Student Media Project of the Year has been awarded to the ‘Varsity 2026 Broadcast Series’ broadcast and organised by KCL Radio and KCL Film Society. This series took place in March 2026 and produced live footage of hockey, rugby, and football games. To check it out, look at the KCL Film Society’s YouTube account.

COMMUNITY IMPACT PROJECT OF THE YEAR: I-GIVE Digital Inclusion Labs
Reggie the Lion makes a special appearance to award the Community Impact Project of the Year to I-GIVE Digital Inclusion Labs.The labs are student-led workshops that empower Year 12 and Year 13 BTEC students with digital skills. This project has truly made a lasting impact on its target community.

EVENT OF THE YEAR: The UNHCR Charity Match organised by KCL Women’s Football
Event of the Year goes to the UNHCR Charity Match organised by KCL Women’s and Men’s Football.
This was the second most competitive category of the night. The UNHCR match was held on Wednesday, 22 October, at the London Marathon Community Track in London Stadium. KCL played Queen Mary. Jointly, the initiative raised an impressive amount of £8,795.

PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR: Tom Sims and Lucinda Haye
President of the Year has been awarded to Tom Sims of KCL Men’s Rugby and Lucinda Haye of KCL Women’s Rugby. This is the most competitive category of the evening, with 168 nominations. This award recognises the student leader who has not only worked hard and passionately but also gone above and beyond to run a society, sports club, or activity group at King’s.

LAUREL: Ali Gibson, Juliet Bayne Azcarate, Sanaa Sarfraz.
The Laurel award goes to Ali Gibson from the LGBTQ+ Network and the KCL Radio, Juliet Bayne Azcarate of the KCL Radio, and Sanaa Sarfraz of GKT Women’s Rugby. This prestigious accolade recognises graduating students whose resilience, work, and dedication have made a lasting impact on the student community.

HARIS AHMED: Hfsa Fahad
And the winner for the Haris Ahmed Volunteer of the Year Award is Hfsa Fahad, who is part of Women in Dentistry. This award is in honour of late medical student Haris Ahmed who was and continues to be inspiring. It is given to recognise volunteering. Fahad’s advocacy spans the classroom, institution, and beyond.

ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR: Nauman Nadeem
Nauman Nadeem, a member of the LGBTQ+ network and the Law Council, has won Advocate of the Year. This award recognises those who drive and work towards serious change and a positive impact on the community.

HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP: Mikayil Abiyev, Dulcie Wainwright-Pilton, Jess Sparey, Darren Wallis.
Mikayil Abiyev from the Real Estate and Property Society, Alum Dulcie Wainwright-Pilton, and staff members Jess Sparey and Darren Wallis all win the award for Honorary Life Membership. This award recognises individuals who have showcased remarkable leadership and dedication in making a lasting impact on the student union and King’s community.

BURT BRAILSFORD SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR: Ali Hassan
Veteran tennis player and former M1 Captain Ali Hassan wins Burt Brailsford Sportsperson of the Year. Hassan played a pivotal role in helping the King’s Tennis Team defeat UCL 2-1 at this year’s Varsity match. During his time as M1 Captain, Hassan led his team through strong BUCS showings. As a teenager, Hassan famously defeated former world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

NEW GROUP OF THE YEAR: The Balkan Society
The Balkan Society Wins New Group of the Year. The society has seen rapid growth this year, hosting events including a collaboration with the Foreign Policy Society, which brought in Osman Topčagić, the Bosnian Ambassador to the UK. They also hosted Balkan Nights in November, which served as a celebration of Balkan culture and music.

MOST IMPROVED GROUP OF THE YEAR: Chorus Society
Chorus Society wins Most Improved Group of the Year. This year, they hosted several events, and some highlights included an intercollegiate karaoke night and a Valentine’s Day wellbeing social which included trivia and letter writing.

COMMITTEE OF THE YEAR: KCL Men’s Rugby
KCL Men’s Rugby wins Committee of the Year. Highlights for the team this year have included a nail- biter win against LSE in the inaugural Strand Cup, held in December. The Club, established over 150 years ago in 1869, is one of the College’s oldest.

SPORTS CLUB OF THE YEAR: The King’s Regents
The King’s Regents – the College’s American Football Team – wins Sports Club of the Year. The team capped the year on a high note, bagging a 42–36 Varsity victory against the UCL Emperors.

GROUP OF THE YEAR: The Dance Society.
The final award of the night goes to the Dance Society. This year, the society has focused on greater inclusivity, adding two new teams and collaborating with other King’s societies. They have competed in 5 dance competitions, securing 43 trophies and several special awards.
