Roar News is King’s College London’s independent student newspaper. We take source protection seriously. If you have information in the public interest, here’s how to contact us.
Which method is right for me?
I want to contact you openly and don’t need anonymity → Option A: Direct Contact
I want to send a written tip anonymously → Option B: Hush Line
I want to share files or documents anonymously → Option C: LimeWire and Hush Line
Option A: Non-Anonymous Contact
If your tip doesn’t require anonymity, or you’re happy to be identified as a source, you’re welcome to get in touch directly. This is often the quickest route and makes it easier for our editors to follow up with you.
- By email:
- By Instagram: @roar.news – send us a DM
Please be aware that email and Instagram are not secure or anonymous channels. Do not use these to share sensitive information if you have any concern about being identified.
Before Using Anonymous Options
For maximum anonymity, we recommend using a device not registered to you or a public computer, connecting via a VPN or the Tor Browser (torproject.org), and not accessing this page or our tip line from a KCL network or device.
Option B: Anonymous Text Tip (No Files)
Use this if you want to send a written message, notes or information without any attachments.
- Open your browser and go to our Hush Line address: https://tips.hushline.app/to/roar-news
- Type your message in the text box. You do not need to provide your name or any contact details.
- If you want a response, you can include a secure, anonymous email address – for example, one created via ProtonMail on a device not linked to you. This is entirely optional.
- Click Send. Your message is end-to-end encrypted and only Roar editors can read it.
That’s it. We’ll follow up if you’ve provided a way to reach you.
Option C: Sharing Documents or Files Anonymously
Use this if you want to share documents, screenshots, recordings, or other files.
Step 1 – Prepare your files
Before uploading, consider whether your files contain metadata that could identify you. Documents, images and audio files often contain hidden information such as the author’s name, device details or GPS coordinates. Tools like ExifCleaner (exifcleaner.com) can strip this metadata before you upload.
Step 2 – Upload to LimeWire
- Go to limewire.com
- You do not need to create an account. Look for the option to upload files anonymously.
- Upload your file or files.
- Once the upload is complete, copy the share link that LimeWire generates (please note this link will expire in 7 days and any files will be deleted).
Step 3 – Send the link via Hush Line
- Go to our Hush Line address: https://tips.hushline.app/to/roar-news
- Paste the LimeWire share link into the message box.
- Add any context you want us to know — what the files show, where they came from, or anything else relevant.
- Click Send.
We’ll receive your encrypted message containing the link and access your files from there.
A Note on Source Protection
Roar will never take steps to identify a confidential source without their consent. If you are sharing sensitive information and are concerned about your safety, please read the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Surveillance Self-Defence guide at ssd.eff.org before making contact.
If your tip relates to an urgent or ongoing situation, you may also consider contacting established investigative outlets such as the Guardian, BBC or Bureau of Investigative Journalism via their own secure tip lines.
Roar News is a student publication of King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) and is editorially independent of both KCLSU and King’s College London.
