Prince Harry attended the Veterans’ Mental Health Conference at Strand campus drawing large crowds eager to get a picture.Â
The event, organised in conjunction with Heads Together, seeks to open up the conversation surrounding mental health, particularly within the military.
As part of King’s Centre for Military Health Research, Prince Harry was invited to the College to lead a panel composed of former members of the UK and US Armed Forces.
The College quotes His Royal Highness as stating, “Research by King’s College London puts it [mental illness from service] at 10 per cent. Phrases like ‘ticking time-bomb’ fuel this misconception and are incredibly unhelpful.”
Prince Harry was also keen to dispel the fallacy about military mental illnesses: “PTSD as far as I see it is shorthand for mental illness in the Armed Forces…”

After the panel, Prince Harry was met by a significant crowd of cheering students who were poised with cameras down the entire length of The Quad. Some waited for close to two hours for His Royal Highness to make an appearance.
This is not the first time that royalty descends upon King’s. Last academic year Prince William came to Maughan library to film a speech for Chinese state televisions.
