“Music Still Matters” at GKTMT’s Capsule Collection: A Celebration of Music and Theatre

Instagram post for the Capsule Collection, designed by Faith Falinya

The Capsule Collection is GKT Musical Theatre’s final showcase of the year, taking place in the Great Hall at Strand Campus on the 31st of March. The show is perfect for fans of Hadestown and La La Land, with haunting vocals and a strong creative vision.

It is a one-night-only candle-lit celebration of musical theatre, featuring songs from Stephen Sondheim, Billy Joel, Anais Mitchell, and more.

Director Faith Falinya spoke to ROAR about turning the carefully curated song selections into a cohesive experience, “One that celebrates music as an art form, not just entertainment.”

“We move across decades and prove that great songs don’t age. Come for the talent and stay for the reminder that music still matters.”

The performance includes members of GKTMT, one of King’s musical theatre societies. Audiences may remember their performance of Beauty and the Beast or the Night at the Musicals earlier in the year.

The director told Roar she was most excited for audiences to see the range of talent in GKTMT, “performers can move between Opera, Soft Rock, Jazz, Soul and Musical Theatre and still tell a story that feels true.”

Faith focuses on impact rather than genre, creating a show that does not limit performers and showcases their individual talents, while curating a powerful experience and celebration of music.

Step into the Great Hall next Tuesday, and prepare to be transported into a candle-lit cabaret lounge.

Tickets can be bought through the KCLSU website, and more information is available on GKTMT’s Instagram @gktmusicaltheatre
