From the Love Island villa to the Royal Festival Hall, Love Island winner Julia Majchrzak didn’t wait for her tan to fade before attending another major summer event: King’s College London’s 2026 graduation. She was there to celebrate her best friend Avery Buchanan, graduating with a master’s degree in Biomedical and Molecular Sciences.
On Thursday 30 July, days after being crowned champion of Love Island UK Season 13, Julia shared photos from the graduation ceremony on Instagram. Known for her runway-ready looks and memorable one-liners, including ‘póg mo thóin’, Julia won the series alongside Lorenzo Alessi after receiving the most public votes in the live final.
Her best friend Avery told Roar it was “great” to catch up with classmates and celebrate with friends on graduation day. While completing her master’s degree, Avery has been working at a University of Oxford-affiliated research hospital, developing bone marrow models to study bone and blood cancers. Originally from the U.S., Avery completed her undergraduate degree in physics and chemistry before moving to London, where she met Julia through a roommate-finding website, Roomies, just a week after arriving.

“We both messaged each other basically saying we didn’t need roommates, but as foreigners trying to make a life in London, we needed friends.”
Avery explained: “We met up with a few other girls, but we immediately clicked with each other and have been friends ever since.”
On her Instagram Story, Julia posted a message to Avery: “You deserve this so much, and I’m beyond proud of you.” She also congratulated graduating fans, writing: “Thank you to everyone who came over to say hi… congratulations to each and every one of you on your amazing achievements.”
At Roar, we wish all of this year’s graduates the very best for the future. After years of grafting for their degrees, it’s time for a well-earned summer of success.
