King’s College London (KCL) announced the launch of the King’s Doctoral School for Arts & Humanities on 21 July 2025.

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities will host the new school, which aims to support innovative doctoral research and bring together several external partnerships, industry connections and open research practices.

The school will announce an open PhD studentship competition in Autumn 2025 for intake in Autumn 2026, with up to 20 studentships available.

It will also host current King’s students supported by London Arts and Humanities Partnership studentships, as well as those funded by Harold Moody Postgraduate Research Studentships.

In addition, the new ADAPT-AI programme, set to start in Autumn 2026, will be based at the school. The programme will train twenty students to analyse audience participation with creative technology and AI.

AI will also be used at the school to study historical texts in the ‘Knowledge Orders before Modernity’ programme, launched in 2024.

Students at the school will be able to benefit from several new initiatives. These include a placement programme and expanded professional support.

Professor Alice Taylor, Vice Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, setup and launched the school.

Professor Taylor remarked:

“I’m delighted to be launching this new school which is not only a signal to postgraduate students that we are continuing to invest in the arts and humanities, but also a tangible example of the vibrant and expectation-defying research culture and environment we have cultivated in arts and humanities at King’s.”
