Former King’s Student on Trial for ‘Islamic State-Inspired’ Terrorism Plot

The Old Bailey

The trial of a former King’s student accused of planning a terror attack in London opened this week.

Suhaib Majeed, 21, who was studying Physics at King’s, was charged with plotting to kill a soldier, police officer or civilian in a “drive-by” shooting.

The prosecution told the court Majeed was the “essential cog” in communications.

He and three other men purchased a gun and ammunition in an attempt to carry out multiple terrorism acts, the Old Bailey has heard.

Brian Altman QC, Prosecutor, has said that the assassination involved either “a drive-by shooting or a shooting on foot and then a speedy escape by moped”.

The men were allegedly inspired by an IS fatwa to kill Western non-believers, claiming in a Youtube video that followers should “strike the soldiers, patrons and troops”.

The four men were alleged to have researched various locations in West London to search for the Parachute Regiment Territorial Army Barracks at White City and Shepherd’s Bush police station.

Tarik Hassane, 22, and Majeed were part of an internet group called “Turnup Terror Squad”, posting messages on how to acquire weapons.

An email was sent out to all King’s students in October 2014 announcing the news.

The trial is ongoing.
