King’s Undergraduate student Michelle Agyemang scored the crucial equalising goal in England’s Euro Semi-final match against Italy last night (22 July). England will now participate in the Women’s Euro Final this Sunday evening (27 July).

Agyemang has had a remarkable tournament so far, despite making only three appearances and starting zero games.

The Business Management student made her presence known in England’s quarter-final tie with Sweden, scoring the equalising goal in the 81st minute, only 11 minutes after she was substituted on.

In the semi-final against Italy, she took centre stage. It felt as though England’s chances were completely over, after trailing 1-0 down for 95 minutes. Yet in the last minute of the game Agyemang scored to send the match to extra time.

A long cross from Lauren Hemp hit the Italian keeper but Agyemang was quick on the rebound, scoring her third senior goal for England.

In her post-match interview, Agyemang reflected on her journey that earned her late-England call-up to ITV Sport: “Everything happens for a reason and I am so grateful to God that I’m here.”

Her journey has been incredible, having been a ballgirl at Wembley for England manager Sabrina Wiegman’s first match, only four years ago.

The Women’s Euro final takes place in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday 27 June.

“We are immensely proud of Michelle and all she has achieved so far. Her incredible performance is an inspiration to the entire King’s community and should encourage every student that you can excel in the classroom and score goals beyond the university at the same time. Join us in cheering the Lionesses loudly enough on Sunday so that she can hear us from London!” -Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor & President of King’s College London
