Roar Sports reports on how KCL Athletes performed at the recent LUCA Indoor Championships
KCL Athletics and Cross Country (KCLAXC) came home to win their second consecutive London University and College’s Athletics Indoor Championships (LUCA) this weekend. They won by a comfortable margin of fourteen points, beating their own record for most points ever accrued by a team. GKT came second in the United Hospital Championship, the oldest Athletics club championship in the world dating back to 1867; beforeg the founding of the Olympics!
Every athlete showed outstanding levels of grit, excellence, and effort. LUCA’s MVP was Lateefah Agberemi, who won 16 of King’s 58 points, winning the women’s 60m, 60m Hurdles, Long Jump and Triple Jump as well as having the anchor leg in the women’s relay A team which took second place. Four out of five of the men’s 200m finalists were King’s competitors, taking Gold and Silver. Similarly, King’s took the whole podium in the women’s Triple Jump. Kai Strachan, being the only athlete from all competing universities to run the 800m, 1500m and 3000m, ran very impressive times in all three events.

Above all, the highlight of the day was the sense of community and support fostered by the team, cheering on those who were competing for the first time, and those who had raced many times before.
