Current King’s physics student charged with terrorism offences

A STUDENT from King’s has been charged with intending to commit acts of terrorism, appearing in court today.

Suhaib Majeed, 20, of Church Street Estate, London NW8 is a current student taking MSci Physics, who started at the College in 2012.

He appeared in Westminster Magistrates court today, alongside three other men, all of whom have been remanded in custody.

A classmate of Majeed said the news was “really scary”.

Mark Dawson, prosecuting, told the court that the case revolved around an alleged plot “to shoot, to kill, police officers or soldiers on the streets of London”.

Twenty-one details within the terror charge related to different individuals, but specific details are not given about which charge related to which individual.

The men allegedly swore allegiance to Islamic State and carried out reconnaissance on Shepherd’s Bush police station and White City Territorial Army Barracks.

Physics students have been warned against speaking to journalists and are being told to direct people to the KCL Press Office.

The College and the students’ union KCLSU are currently working with the Met Police.

All four will appear at the Old Bailey on Oct 27.
