King’s College London (KCL) rose to 19th in the UK and 31st globally in major university rankings, with standout scores for research, graduate prospects and employer reputation.

King’s rose five places to joint 19th in this year’s Complete University Guide, alongside University of Surrey, with an overall score of 76%. In the same rankings, University College London (UCL) placed 13th in the UK and Imperial College London placed 6th.

In the 2026 QS World University Rankings, KCL placed 31st, rising from 40th in the 2025 league tables. Globally, UCL came 9th and Imperial retained 2nd place.

In the QS World University Rankings, King’s reached a peak of 16th globally in 2015, followed by a gradual decline until this year’s rebound.

Similarly, in the 2026 Complete University Guide, King’s reversed a period of stagnation at 24th place with a notable rise in its ranking.

King’s performed particularly well in several metrics in this year’s QS rankings, scoring 98.4 for its International Research Network and 96.5 for Sustainability. An Employer Reputation score of 91.8 also reflects strong global recognition among recruiters.

In this year’s Complete University Guide, King’s scored 86% for Research Quality – 8th in the UK – and 84% for Graduate Prospects, both among its highest-performing metrics. It also achieved strong results in Entry Standards (78%).

Despite strong performance in areas such as Academic Reputation, Research Quality and Graduate Prospects across both rankings, King’s received a Student Satisfaction score of 74% in the Complete University Guide – placing the University 126th among UK universities for this metric.

This lags behind most major London universities, including Imperial and UCL and reflects a consistent pattern of low satisfaction that continues to undercut the University’s otherwise high overall scores.

KCL is consistently ranked within the top 40 universities globally and within the top 40 in other notable league tables including the Times Higher Education’s international rankings, which placed KCL at 36th in the world.

Earlier this year KCL ranked best in the world for nursing in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, after placing 2nd in the previous year’s subject rankings.

A spokesperson for King’s College London said:

“We are pleased with these recent results, which reinforce our standing among the world’s leading universities for research, innovation, and high-quality education, and highlight that our graduates continue to be highly employable, going on to pursue meaningful and successful careers in their chosen fields. We also value the honest feedback of our student community and recognize that we have more work to do to improve student satisfaction – which will be a key priority of our new university strategy.”
