LSESU Men’s Rugby apologise for “inexcusable” bigoted leaflet, promise ‘anti-banter workshop’

LSESU Men’s Rugby have admitted they “have a lot to learn about the pernicious effects of ‘banter’” after their Freshers’ Fair leaflet branded women slags, trollops and crumpets.

Under the glare of the national press the club appears to have experienced a fast-tracked enlightenment: “Clearly, on this occasion we not only failed ourselves, but the university which we are so proud to represent.”

After three days of radio silence, LSE Men’s Rugby have apologised for what they described as “inexcusably offensive and stigmatising language”.

“We would like to make it clear that this absolutely does not reflect the views and values of our club,” they said of the guide they chose to hand out to Freshers eager to join their team.

“We can see that the language used in that leaflet must have alienated many potential members and we are ashamed and saddened by that,” they added.

Whilst the current club members have taken full responsibility for the leaflet’s distribution, they have not made clear whether it was created by them. They suggested that it could have derived from historic “club literature”.

They said they are currently organising a “workshop” for all team members. It is unclear what the workshop will contain.
