Obituary: Professor Alessandro De Vita

Professor Alessandro ‘Sandro’ De Vita died suddenly on the 2nd of October.

The 53 year-old physics lecturer had been teaching at King’s since 2010 and had held posts at many other prestigious universities including EPFL and Trieste before settling at the College.

Professor De Vita’s career spanned more than 20 years and was focused on innovative materials modelling and synthesising digital and analogue techniques of micro-mapping to test the characteristics of substances.

He was a co-founder and former chair of the Thomas Young London Centre for Theory and Simulation of Materials.

Professor De Vita is survived by his wife.

The Physics Society described him as ‘a great mentor’ and a ‘source of inspiration’.

The College will soon be hosting a service in his memory.
