KCL narrowly miss out on first ever Athletics Varsity Title

KCL just missed out on a groundbreaking Athletics Varsity Title after a photo finish.

History was made in Allianz Park on 17th March in the first ever Athletics Varsity, which saw UCL ultimately take victory over KCL by an incredibly close margin of 2 points. The final score rested on 64-62 points to UCL.

Competitors braved icy weather conditions and challenged each other in various track and field events, including the 100m sprint, the 800m sprint, the 3000m run, the 4x100m relay, the shot-put and long jump.

Most notable was the stellar performance from the women’s sprint team, taking a clean sweep in all of their races, demolishing their UCL rivals in two respective races. KCL was therefore given the maximum allowed points for both events.

Kishore Ravi and Harry Browning also put up a fantastic fight in the men’s 100m sprint, defeating their UCL competitors easily. However, the men’s sprint team unfortunately lost their 4x100m relay race by a minuscule margin of 0.07 seconds.

In the men’s long jump, Temitope Fisayo and Tom Boutelle leapt to victory and comfortably won the top spots, securing 8 points for KCL.

A large leap for King’s…

Additionally, female shot-putter, Louise Pech made a notable impact in the women’s shot put, throwing a distance of 8.97m, defeating her opponent’s results by over a meter.

Louise Pech shoots for the stars

Despite the overall loss to UCL, the KCL Athletics team put up a great performance and have done the College proud.

The Athletics team will undoubtedly be running the long race to the Varsity Title next year.
