Next week’s exams at ExCel moved to 10:30 to mitigate against tube strike

The ExCel Centre

EXAMS have been delayed until 10:30am for students sitting assessments at the ExCel Centre next week to allow more time to travel during the tube strike.

King’s Exams office decided to move all students’ exams between Tuesday May 6 and Friday May 9 backwards by half an hour, and will remain the case even if the action is called off.

In a statement, the university said: “The decision to delay the start by 30 minutes for morning examinations was taken after consideration of a number of options, including moving the examinations to evening slots or rescheduling them in August.

“The standard policy of being permitted to enter an examination for up to one hour after it has started will still apply, but extra time will not be provided.”

Afternoon exams will still start at 2:30pm.

The delay doesn’t include exams taking place at Guy’s campus and in Waterloo.

It’s unclear whether this affects last week’s announcement on resitting any exams which students miss due to the strike.

Those with special exam provisions will be contacted separately, it’s not known whether there will be any change in their schedules.

Areeb Ullah, Vice President of Academic Affairs at the students’ union, said: “KCLSU are glad King’s recognises the adverse affect students would face attempting to attend exams in the morning session and grateful that they’ve taken this move to delay morning exams at the ExCel Centre next week.”

Some students remain skeptical over how much difference the move will make.

Widespread line closures and commuting difficulties similar to those seen during last February’s strike can be anticipated, but the DLR will be running.

The industrial action follows the ongoing row over the proposed closure of 260 Tube ticket offices and 960 job cuts.
