150 firefighters tackle Chancery Lane fire

Chancery Lane, including the Maughan Library, has been closed off as firefighters tackle a blaze in the offices of the Law Society on the Central London street.

Nearly 30 people were forced to flee the burning building, which is directly opposite the Maughan, shortly before the London Fire Brigade arrived late on Saturday evening. Eleven residents were then evacuated from their nearby homes.

150 firefighters were tackling the blaze into the night. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, though fires have damaged the roof as well as the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the building.

Hannah Evans, an International Relations student at King’s, reported seeing police vans and dogs in addition to fire engines and fire fighters while on route to the Maughan Library.

King’s College London have stated via Twitter that the Maughan Library will be inaccessible until further notice.
